In a swift and compassionate response to the urgent needs of children impacted by conflict and displacement, Mahibere Hiwot for Social Development (MSD) has extended crucial, life-saving assistance to 225 unaccompanied and separated children (UASC) in the most severely affected communities of the Amhara Region.
Operating diligently in North Mecha, Merawi, Bahir Dar Zuria, Guagusa Shikudad, Tillili, and Chagni, MSD has delivered a range of vital assistance. This includes providing
- nutritional staples in the form of wheat flour,
- distributing emergency Non-Food Items (NFIs) such as mattresses, blankets, pillows, and bed sheets,
- offering psychosocial support to promote emotional recovery and resilience, granting cash assistance tailored to the needs of separated and unaccompanied children,
- facilitating foster care placement support in Chagni to ensure long-term protection.
Through strong partnerships with entities like Child Protection Units, Community Resource Centers (CRCs), and local government actors, MSD remains committed to prioritizing the dignity, safety, and psychosocial well-being of children across regions facing significant logistical challenges.
Reflecting on the impact of this intervention, a 65-year-old caregiver from Guagusa Shikudad shared,
“This response is a lifeline. It restores both Dignity and Hope.”
This initiative marks another significant milestone in MSD’s ongoing mission to create resilient and protective environments where every child is safe, supported, and valued.
MSD reaffirms its unwavering commitment to ensuring that no child is left behind, continuing to work tirelessly to meet the needs of vulnerable children in crisis-affected areas.
