Mahibere Hiwot for Social Development (MSD), with the financial and technical support of UNICEF, successfully conducted a Scholastic Material Support Handover Event for 1,000 conflict-affected children residing in China, Woynishet, and Bakelo IDP camps in Debre Birhan, North Shoa Zone of the Amhara Region.
The distributed scholastic materials included school bags, exercise books, pens, and pencils, equipping children with the necessary tools to continue their education amidst the challenges of displacement.
The initiative is part of the Child Protection and Education Project for Conflict-Affected Women, Children, and Hosting Communities in Amhara Region, which aims to safeguard children’s right to education, reduce school dropouts, and strengthen resilience in crisis-affected areas.
During the event, community leaders, local education officials, parents, and children expressed their appreciation. They emphasized how this support would ease the financial burden of displaced families and restore hope for a brighter educational future.
“Every child has the right to education, regardless of their circumstances,” said Tilaye Gizachew, Founder and Executive Director of MSD. “With the support of UNICEF, we are committed to ensuring that vulnerable children have access to essential learning materials and opportunities for growth.”
This joint effort highlights the importance of partnership and solidarity in responding to humanitarian needs, ensuring that children affected by conflict are not left behind in their pursuit of education and protection.
