The USAID-funded Caring for Vulnerable Children (CVC) Project, implemented by MSD since 2021 in the Tigray Region, has reached its conclusion following a USAID-issued stop-work order. Over the past four years, the project has successfully supported more than 10,000 children and caregivers through integrated HIV prevention, care and treatment services, economic empowerment initiatives, multi-purpose cash assistance, and community system strengthening.
To formally close the project and reflect on its impact, MSD organized a close-out workshop in Mekelle, bringing together key stakeholders from regional, zonal, and woreda-level government structures. The event provided a platform to review achievements, discuss sustainability, and explore future partnership opportunities.
The workshop was co-facilitated by the Executive Director of MSD and the Director of the Tigray Regional Health Bureau’s HIV/AIDS Directorate. Both leaders emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum in support of vulnerable children, even beyond the life of the project.
In his closing remarks, a representative from the signatory office expressed heartfelt appreciation to MSD for its valuable contributions to the wellbeing of children and families in the region. Special thanks were extended to FHI 360 for their financial and technical support, the Tigray Regional Government for their collaboration, USAID for funding the initiative, and the dedicated project staff, volunteers, and community beneficiaries who made the work possible.
MSD remains committed to sustaining the gains of the CVC project and continuing its mission to improve the lives of vulnerable populations in Tigray and beyond.
